Sam is captured and taken to the game arena. He is eventually pitted against Rinzler, the champion of the games, who notices that Sam is not a program, but a User. Rinzler takes him before Clu, a digital copy of Sam’s father who rules The Grid. Clu nearly kills Sam in a Light Cycle match before Quorra (Olivia Wilde) rescues him. Taken to a distant hideout in the “Outlands,” Sam is reunited with his father, who reveals that Clu betrayed him and defeated Tron, seizing control of The Grid and forcing Kevin to remain in hiding. Clu also committed genocide against sentient “isomorphic algorithms” (ISOs), self-produced programs that carried the potential to unlock mysteries in science, religion, and medicine, because Clu considered these ISOs to be an imperfection. When the portal closed, Flynn became a captive inside his own creation until Sam re-opened it from the outside.

Resolving to make it back to the real world where he would be able to delete Clu, Sam makes his way back to The Grid to find a program named Zuse, whom he believes can provide safe passage to the portal. The End of Line Club owner—Castor (Michael Sheen)—is revealed to be Zuse and betrays Sam to Clu’s guards. Though Kevin and Quorra arrive just in time to help Sam escape, Quorra is wounded in the process and Zuse gains possession of Kevin’s identity disc. Knowing the disc works as a master key to The Grid, Zuse attempts to negotiate with Clu, but Clu simply takes it and destroys the club.

Stowing away on a transport ship, Kevin heals Quorra, who is revealed to be the last surviving ISO. The three unexpectedly arrive at a station aboard a massive warship. When Quorra allows Rinzler to capture her to serve as a distraction, Kevin recognizes Rinzler as a reprogrammed Tron. Clu addresses an army of troops, expressing his desire to enter the real world and reform it to his ideal of perfection.

Sam saves Quorra and reclaims Kevin’s disc. The trio then commandeer an aerial shuttle and are pursued by Clu, his guards and Rinzler using Light Jets. Between Quorra’s evasive flying and Sam manning the rear turret, they manage to shoot down Clu’s guards. During the conflict, Kevin and Rinzler make eye contact and Rinzler regains his true identity as Tron. Tron declares: “I fight for the user”, and he deliberately collides with Clu’s Light Jet, causing both of their vehicles to de-res. As they are falling, Clu wrestles away Tron’s spare baton and creates another light jet to continue his journey to the portal. Tron falls into the Sea of Simulation, where the orange illumination on his armor reverts back to his original blue. Sam, Kevin and Quorra reach the portal only to find Clu blocking their path. Kevin sacrifices himself to end the impasse, re-integrating with Clu to ensure Sam and Quorra escape. The two merge and explode just as Sam and Quorra use Kevin’s disc to transport themselves through the portal to the real world.

Back in the basement of Flynn’s Arcade, Sam saves a backup of The Grid onto his flash drive. He then meets Alan and tells him that he will start working at ENCOM, and, as the controlling interest shareholder, he will name Alan chairman of the board. Sam leaves with Quorra on his motorcycle, showing her the sunrise she has longed to see.

An elderly witch named Gothel witnesses a single drop of pure sunlight hit the ground, creating a magical flower with the ability to heal the sick and hurt, and she uses it to keep herself young when she sings to it. Years later, the queen of a nearby kingdom falls ill while expecting a child. Her guards, searching for a cure, find the mysterious flower. They make a broth out of the flower, which heals the queen and she gives birth to a girl named Rapunzel. Gothel learns that Rapunzel’s golden hair retains the flower’s healing abilities as long as it isn’t cut, so she kidnaps the child and isolates her in a tower, raising the girl as her own daughter. However, every year on Rapunzel’s birthday, the kingdom sends thousands of floating lanterns into the sky longing for their lost princess to return.

Eighteen years later, Rapunzel lives in the tower with her pet chameleon, Pascal. Rapunzel asks Gothel to let her see the floating lights on her birthday, but Gothel denies her request, saying the world is full of people who would covet her abilities for themselves. Meanwhile, thieves led by Flynn Rider, steal the tiara of the missing princess from the castle. Flynn abandons his accomplices and stumbles upon Rapunzel’s tower, choosing it as a hideout. During the chase, the lead guard’s horse, Maximus, is separated from his rider and continues the search for Flynn on his own. Once inside the tower, Flynn is knocked unconscious by Rapunzel, who then hides him in a wardrobe.

Rapunzel tells Gothel that she wants a special paint for her birthday. Gothel agrees, and after she leaves, Rapunzel makes a deal with Flynn — if he escorts her to the lights and back, she will return the tiara. While Rapunzel is excited to be free, she is soon conflicted between her freedom and her guilt of disobedience. While traveling, the two visit the Snuggly Duckling Tavern, which appears to be full of thugs like Gothel warned Rapunzel about, but they all each have their own dreams, just as Rapunzel does. As the royal guards continue their search, Gothel learns of the pursuit, returns to the tower and finds Rapunzel gone. The tavern regulars help the pair escape from the guards, but they eventually corner Flynn at a man-made dam, which Maximus inadvertently causes to collapse. Trapped in a flooding cave, Rapunzel reveals her powers to Flynn, and her hair glows such as the flower. It enabled them to escape safely, and Flynn reveals his real name, Eugene Fitzherbert, and his reason for being a thief. While Flynn gathers firewood, Gothel secretly meets with Rapunzel, who tells Gothel she has feelings for Flynn. Gothel tells Rapunzel that Flynn is only after the tiara, claiming that he will leave once he has it.

Within the Jonas Brothers, Nick and Joe might be paralleled to another pair of Beatles-loving siblings: Noel and Liam Gallagher of Oasis. Joe lines up with Liam, the smooth-voiced charmer – although Joe’s honey-based method has little in common with Liam’s vinegar-laced personality. Nick and Noel are idea men, blessed with passable singing voices but nothing to match Joe and Liam.

New duet “I Wouldn’t Change a Thing” conveyed zero chemistry between Lovato and Joe Jonas, who called off their girlfriend-boyfriend status earlier this year. Sunday was the second date of the “Camp Rock 2” tour, which is scheduled to visit dozens of U.S. cities, Canada, Mexico and five South American countries between now and Thanksgiving. Now that’s something to put their acting talents to the test.

“Introducing Me,” another “Camp Rock 2” selection, provided Nick a lively spotlight in which he attempted to play the novelty tune (“I like checks with lots of zeros”) before 2-1/2 minutes passed. He raced through the unplugged tune, perhaps partly to conceal its blatant resemblance to Jason Mraz hit “I’m Yours.”

I have to say that I probably would have loved the entire thing if I was a four-year-old who loves Cinderella, or the parent of a four-year-old who loves Cinderella. But as a jaded thirtysomething entertainment journalist I found it a bit disappointing that the whole thing looked so obviously pre-taped (at the beginning of December) and Celine Dion was singing in some Disney resort, not even pretending to be part of the parade. Also, that “spontaneous” flashmob dancing during the Jonas Brothers was way too gimmicky!

There was plenty of branding for Disney and Pixar characters, and Disney resorts…and Disney cruises…etc., etc. But there was also a lot of info about a new program “Give a day get a Disney day” — and encouraging volunteering is definitely in the spirit of the season, so Disney won me over in the end. All the same, the trio worked to earn the adulation, roaming around the stage, mugging for fans and issuing a steady stream of standard-issue concert banter.

If you weren’t a tween girl overcome with the delirium of seeing your pop crushes in person, though, the show got off to a slow start.

The energy felt strangely flat for the first half of the 75-minute concert, as if the trio (which played with a 10-piece band) couldn’t quiet settle into a rhythm on bright pop songs with catchy hooks — and more than a little audience assistance in singing them.

A few technical glitches didn’t help, either. Nick Jonas’ microphone never seemed loud enough, for starters. Worse, when it came time to play a song on a baby grand piano, the instrument wasn’t audible at all.

While he and a pair of techs fiddled with the piano, which never did end up working, Joe Jonas stalled for time by bringing up a fan to help the brothers sing a song — except that neither Joe nor brother Kevin, or the band, could quite remember how the intended tune, “Leave It On the Line,” went.

Eventually, they moved on with a sure-fire crowd pleaser, “Year 3000.”

A few songs later, the band finally clicked when Nick Jonas took over on drums for “Video Girl,” a punchy pop song adorned with strings and horns.

From then on, the brothers looked like they were having as much fun as the crowd, throwing in a cover of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” for the parents and showing a funkier side of their wholesome pop on “World War III,” which featured the added bonus of Joe Jonas shedding his shirt to reveal a blue tank top and buff arms that were cause for additional screaming.

After the lovelorn ballad, “Lovebug,” anchored by Nick Jonas picking out an accompaniment on acoustic guitar, the band finished the main set with “S.O.S.” before returning for a two-song encore.

The first, “When You Look Me in the Eyes,” layered strings and gooey, soaring synthesizer over an acoustic guitar. The second, the funk-laced rocker “Burnin’ Up,” ended the show on an upbeat note with steamy wah-wah guitar riffs and, of course, more screaming. [Reprint courant.com]

PRIZES: ONE (1) GRAND PRIZE: A three (3) day / two (2) night trip for winner and three (3) guests (“Group”) to a city in the United States (“City”), on Sponsor-selected dates to meet the JONAS Brothers (“Trip”), consisting of the following elements for the Group: [1] hotel accommodations (one standard room/quad occupancy, including room tax) for two (2) nights; [2] a meet and greet with the Jonas Brothers (“Meet and Greet”), subject to availability; [3] a JONAS stuffed plush dog; [4] ground transportation in the City to and from the Meet and Greet; [5] if winner’s residence is located more than two hundred fifty (250) miles from the City, round-trip coach air transportation on a Sponsor-selected carrier between a Sponsor-selected major metropolitan airport near winner’s residence (“airport of origin”) and City; or if winner’s residence is located less than two hundred fifty (250) miles from the City, round-trip ground transportation via a Sponsor-selected method between winners’ residence and the hotel; and [6] airport/hotel transfers. 6. PROCEDURES: Potential winners will be selected in a random drawing to be conducted on or about October 28, 2009 by the Administrator in New York, NY from among all eligible Entries received. The decision of the Administrator shall be final and binding. Odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible Entries received.

7. WINNERS: On or about October 29, 2009 potential winners will be contacted. Potential Grand Prize winner will be sent paperwork by overnight delivery service; potential First Prize Winners will be sent paperwork via First Class Mail. All legal responsibilities of a minor (as defined by state of primary residence) under the Rules will be assumed by a Parent who must confirm his/her consent. [11] the Sponsor has the right, at any time and at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual it suspects to be doing any of the following: (a) tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Sweepstakes or the Website; (b) violating the Rules; (c) violating the terms of service, privacy policy or other terms, conditions of use and/or general rules or guidelines of any Sweepstakes property or service or (d) acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person; or for any other good cause as determined solely by the Sponsor; [12] Sponsor has the right to lock out an entrant whose eligibility is in question or who has been disqualified or is otherwise ineligible to enter the Sweepstakes; [13] since any attempt by any individual to damage the Website or undermine the legitimate operation of this Sweepstakes or the Website is a violation of these Rules as well as criminal and civil laws, and should Sponsor believe or become aware that such an attempt has been, is being, or will be made, it has the right to seek remedies and damages from any responsible individuals to the fullest extent permitted by law, including without limitation criminal prosecution; [14] all disputes, claims and causes of action at law or in equity (individually, “Claim”) arising out of or relating to this Sweepstakes, the meaning or interpretation of the Rules or any prize awarded shall be resolved by applying the laws of California, without regard to conflict of laws provisions therein, and shall be solely and exclusively brought in the state or federal courts within that state; [15] all Claims shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; [16] all Claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, but in no event include attorneys’ fees, and under no circumstances will any entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, special, consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses and waives all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased; [17] Sponsor has the right to modify prize award procedures at its sole discretion; [18] in the unlikely event of the cancellation or postponement of the Meet and Greet or the unavailability of the Jonas Brothers or other circumstances beyond Releasees’ reasonable control, the Releasees are not responsible. If such occurs, the Trip will be awarded without that element of the prize; and [19] Grand Prize winner’s acceptance of the Grand Prize constitutes the grant of an unconditional right to Sponsor and assigns to photograph, film, or otherwise capture the fulfillment of the Grand Prize (“Filming”), and Sponsor shall have the unconditional right to reproduce, distribute, display, exhibit, transmit, broadcast, stream, synchronize with visual material, modify, amend, create derivative works, and otherwise use and permit others to use these photographs and footage throughout the universe in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, in all languages and in all versions, in perpetuity, without compensation, except where prohibited by law. [20] you grant the Sponsor a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable license to reproduce, distribute, display, exhibit, transmit, broadcast, stream, synchronize with visual material, modify, amend, create derivative works, and otherwise use and permit others to use the Filming, throughout the universe in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, in all languages and in all versions; [21] Sponsor’s use of the Filming as described herein will not give rise to any claims of infringement, invasion of privacy, defamation or claims for performance or payment of any kind, including but not limited to payment of re-use fees, residuals or license fees; [22] Sponsor shall have the right to make such changes to the Filming and make such uses thereof as it deems necessary or desirable, including but not limited to the right to use, edit, and reproduce and/or alter said Filming in perpetuity, in its entirety or in part, for any commercial and promotional purposes worldwide without any consultation or additional permission, or compensation, credit or attribution; [23] Sponsor has the right to conduct a background check (“Check”) of any and all records of the Grand Prize Winner (or winner’s Parent (“Winner’s Parent”) if the Grand Prize Winner is a minor, as defined by state of primary residence), including without limitation, civil and criminal court records and police reports, which he/she; to the extent necessary under law, shall authorize; [24] Sponsor has the right to conduct a Check of any and all records of the winner’s guest(s) including without limitation, civil and criminal court records and police reports, which he/she; to the extent necessary under law, shall authorize; [25] Sponsor may take all steps necessary to corroborate any information provided to Sponsor by the Grand Prize Winner (or Winner’s Parent) and the winner’s guests, and he/she will be obligated to provide necessary contacts and information for the Check; [26] if a felony conviction is found, Sponsor has the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify the Grand Prize Winner or the winner’s guests from participating in the Trip and to pay the winner a cash substitute for the Trip. Winner’s guests will not get a
cash substitute.
